I’m planning to replace my old shitty MBP with some of that new ‘Retina’ - least favourite marketing buzz term ever, by the by - hotness, once I build up the nerve to spend £1,030 on a laptop.

I’m in the union that makes all the shows happen, I do E3 and Game Developers usually and this year I saw that MSI gaming laptop, I want! When the Oculus comes out I want to get something I can take with me. Is the MSI worth it or do you think something under $2k will be ok?

Eh, they have their value—it just depends on how high we’re talking, and what kind of device the screen is attached to. The ‘Retina’ MacBooks are a little ridiculous, to be sure—I honestly feel like the 13-inch, in particular, would be a better all-around computer if it had a 1920x1200 display. But then, my ideal Apple laptop would be a slightly - but only slightly - slimmed down Air with a 1920x1200 display. Heck, even a ‘Retina’ Air would be great; I was so incredibly disappointed when they announced that new MacBook thing.

Windows NT, nice. Haven’t seen one of those in a while. Still, no doubt, a very bulletproof OS, if dated.

Yeah it looks nice. But when I use it for video editing or sound work, Photoshop, etc. Things look all sorts of wonky

Look at Dell Precision M4600 and get an i7 2720QM or better processor. Those can be had for around $400 or so
